Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy

Program Information

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is an evidence based group counseling that was initially developed to help prevent the relapse of depressive episodes. While it was created to treat depression, MBCT has also been used to address other issues such as stress, anxiety, bipolar disorder, addictions, and other mental health conditions. It blends concepts of cognitive therapy with the philosophies and practices of mindfulness meditation. The group aims to help individuals become more familiar with the states of mind that result in distress while also developing new ways to relate to them. MBCT groups meet for 2 hour sessions on 8 consecutive weeks with a focus on experiential learning in class and the deepening of new skills through assigned home practice.
